The first Batemans Bay Writers Festival, to be held on 7 and 8 June 2014, was launched on Thursday 27 February by Eurobodalla Shire Mayor, Councillor Lindsay Brown. The launch was held at the CoachHouse Marina Resort, the same venue where the Festival itself will be held. Councellor Lindsay Brown welcomed this initiative and said: “I believe the Festival will certainly provide an enjoyable cultural and literary experience for locals and visitors, and I am excited that The Bay Festival will bring social end economic benefits to the community and the region”. At the launch, Festival Events and Program Coordinator, Marion Roubos-Bennett, announced the terrific line-up of authors. Marion said: “What’s really exciting is that literary lovers will want to gather to hear the wonderful local, interstate, Sydney, Canberra and regional authors at the Festival, many of whom have works published in Australia and overseas. All of the authors are enthusiastic about being involved”. “We are expecting people to attend from Wollongong to the Southern Highlands, from Canberra to Merimbula ─not to mention the many keen locals ─ to hear these superb authors share their experiences,” Marion said. Featured authors include Debra Adelaide, Richard Glover, Susannah Fullerton, Clare Wright, Fiona McIntosh, Jeff Apter, Marion Halligan, Jesse Fink, Lucy Neave, Banafsheh Serov, Patricia Sykes, Jane Sandilands and Peter Freeman. Highlight sessions include How to get published, The writing experience, and Food for thought. The Festival concludes on a high note with a literary lunch, when the witty and entertaining Richard Glover will talk about his humorous books and laugh-aloud journalist columns.
